I disagree with Callarman’s argument that Chris McCandless and Timothy Treadwell were ignorant people, these people were brave and cunning, and in reality they were not jeopardizing anyone’s lives but they’re own when they went into â€Å"the wild†, they were passionate on what they did, they were admirable souls trying to get away from society, the real â€Å"wilderness†. Timothy Treadwell was a weird and yet an interesting person. He had great ideas, but not the greatest ways of putting those ideas into use. Timothy protected his bears and became territorial of them. In one scene in the movie â€Å"Grizzly Man†, a documentary of Treadwells life, Tim filmed visitors of the park throwing rocks at the bears. To understand the differing attitudes to the built heritage of Ireland is to contemplate the historical accounts, stories and legends that fabricate traditions and incite dissent. The concept of tradition is associated with the passing down through generations, beliefs, thoughts and actions (â€Å"tradition†, n. d) and dissent derives from a desire to publicly protest against the traditions and against those holding the authority (â€Å"dissent†, n. ). Ireland, ‘the land of saints and scholars’ (Burke, Watson, and Laurence, 2008), is a country coming to terms with its past by acknowledging the wealth it possesses within its built heritage. A past fabricated with tradition and dissent which resulted in the creation of The Irish Free State in 1922, known today as The Republic of Ireland (Hachey, 1996, p. 167). Attitudes to Irish built heritage have been fashioned through the experiences of a people caught in the tides of both tradition and dissent. The site became an Irish nationalist symbol when Daniel O’Connell, a nationalist leader, assembled over 500,000 people at the site to protest against the lack of civil rights for Catholics and the oppressive interests of Anglo-Irish landlords (Laurence, 2008, p. 159). This protest resulted in the Catholic Relief Act 1829, whereby, for example, Catholics were now able to sit as members of parliament in Westminster. However, as the majority of Catholics were unable to afford a political career due to the position being unsalaried and parliamentary sessions were held at Westminster, London; the opportunities in politics were very unlikely (McCaffrey, 1996, p. 27). This small step to independence by a group of dissenters was able to use the built heritage site of Tara to invoke within the Irish people a sense of their lost traditionalism and new found fervor for nationalism (Laurence, 2008, p. 159). Nevertheless, the continual dominance of British rule saw no substantial social and economic changes for Catholics as they were still†steeped in habitual misery† (Finn Lynch, 1995, p. 24). At Daniel O’Connell’s burial site, his supporters erected the tallest round tower in Ireland. The round tower is a historical symbol of Irish Christianity. This enabled dissenters to create new traditions to speak to future generations through the visual power of a symbolic monument. At his request, O ’Connell’s heart was buried in Rome, the home of the Catholic Church (Burke et al. 008) By the beginning of the 19th century, the Cromwellian policies of plantation and land confiscation were evident on the landscapes of country estates. Landownership was the domain of the privileged minority. In 1804, up to 10,000 landlords, within a population of 5. 4 million, were almost exclusively Protestant; only 5% of land in Catholic hands (â€Å"History of Landed Estates in Ireland, n. d). This leads to another asset to the built heritage of Ireland, known as â€Å"The Big House†. The Big House is the country residence of the landlord. At the beginning of the century, over 4,000 Big Houses glorified the landscape. Today, the number is less than 100. These grand houses, many built during the 18th century ‘golden age’ produced the most ornate and sophisticated architecture, together with highly crafted workmanship. The presence of these houses reflected the social and economic dominance over the generations of ‘landed’ Anglo-Irish families (â€Å"History of Landed Estates in Ireland, n. d). On creation of the Republic, the Big House was deemed a domineering symbol of Anglo-Irish oppression. The civil war 1916-1923 had resulted in approximately 300 houses being burned for political or military reasons (Burke et al. 2008). Social chaos stirred on by agrarian agitators may also have lead to the abandonment of other houses and the perception of â€Å"reversing Cromwellian policy†(Dooley as cited in Burke et al. 2008) resulted in the destruction of The Big Houses as justification of British oppression (Burke et al. 2008). Various Land Acts after the civil war caused the power of the Anglo-Irish landlord to diminish (â€Å"History of Landed Estates in Ireland, n. ). As a consequence of civil war, the collateral damage of war-torn buildings scarred the streets in Dublin. The Office of Public Works undertook a rebuilding program for some integral, functional buildings, for example, the General Post Office and the Customs House (Burke et al. 2008). These traditional buildings, built under the control of British authority were to become iconic within the new Republic. The General Post Office was an emotive building which served as the base for nationalists during the Easter Rising 1916 and thus, out of an act of issent against the ruling British , nationalists were to see the formation of new traditions; a new republic rise out of the rubble. At the time of reconstruction after civil war, the National Monuments Bill ensured the protection of heritage sites built after 1700 and only Irish materials would be used in restoration work. This creation of new tradition, written in law, is evident on The Customs House. One could easily distinguish between the heroes and villains in the film. Descartes’ Discourse on the Method Essay

None of the proposed philosophical theories is exact, not even a combination of two or more theories (Sayre, 2011). However, Descartes has unique way of metaphysical argument concerning existence of God. Descartes’ Discourse on the Method (Part IV) ends surprisingly with a claim of God’s existence, which can be deduced from the interrelationship between mind, soul and our existence. Descartes began the fourth section by discussing about himself. The reading up to the point where he gives credit to a supreme being, God, could only suggest that Descartes was discussing about his philosophical thought about his being as a man. However, the discourse twist came when he inferred, â€Å"something indeed having every perfection of which I could have any idea, that is—to explain myself in one word—by God† (Bennett, 2007, p. 16). After this inference, the discourse changed to one that discussed the existence of God. It was at this point that it became clear that the ending would be more of God’s existence rather than a conclusion of Descartes as a human being. The change of discourse from exploration of self to a proof of God’s existence through personal evaluation was indeed an ingenious thought. Most of the times we try to prove existence of God or lack thereof by evaluating what are outside us. However, Descartes made a self-evaluation on intrinsic values of himself as a human being. By deconstructing his strengths and limitations, he was able to realize a fair conclusion about the existence of a supreme being, which we refer to as God. Conservative investment is a type of investment where the return is nit fluctuated and they guarantee to investors a given amount of return. When looking at beta value of Oz Minerals that stands at 0.65 is indicative of the fat that excess return of stock is expected to perform .45 worse than expected return of market that is index. Low beta value depicts that investment is conservative as the market related risk is low. Performance of company is associated with mining stocks and price of minerals compared to overall stock market (Thomas et al. 2015). Therefore the company has chosen a conservative investment strategy. The estimation of expected cost by company is done by using WACC for financing sources of investment. Cost of capital is the discount rate that is used by company for the purpose of calculations of their capital budgeting. It helps in evaluating the returns generated by any project and whether they are sufficient for risks compensation. Higher WACC is indication of the fact that higher risk is associated with operation of company and hence investors seek additional return in return for undertaking additional level of risks (Peirson et al. 2014). Therefore, management of organization evaluates the higher weighted cost of capital to be associated with carrying higher level of risk and hence investors seeking higher return for compensation the additional level of risks that they are undertaking Debt ratios for the past two years: The computation if debt ratio for the past three years has been shown in the above table. It can be seen that debt ratio for 0.066 in year 2014 and .087 in year 2015 respectively. It can be seen that debt ratio has increased in year 2015. Now, looking at figure for year 2016, debt ratio stood at .105 and this is indicative of the fact that level of debt ratio has been increasing for the past three to four years as illustrated by figures. Therefore, it can be concluded that debt ratio value has not been stable. Looking at the capital structure of company, it can be seen that value of assets have been increasing throughout, however, total liabilities initially decreased and then it is increased subsequently. It appears that organization is not working on maintaining a preferred optimal capital structure. At year ending 31st December, Oz Minerals does not have any borrowings and at the end of year, consolidated entity has undrawn borrowings. On February, 2016, organization has made an announcement of program of an on market share buyback program. This was done for an amount of $ 60 million as a part of framework of updated capital management. Strategy of Oz minerals is reinforced by this updated framework for maximizing the returns of shareholders by ensuring that there is an efficient allocation of capital. Shares that have been acquired as a part of market buyback share program are presented as deduction to capital by cancelling it and there was a share buyback of $ 29.9 million. Oz minerals completed a share buyback of $ 29.9 million of a $ 60 million share through the program (ozminerals.com 2018). There was a repurchasing of shares of total amount of $ 4.8 million at an average share price of $ 6.23. Yes, the adjustments that have been made to shares by share buyback programs hav e been mentioned in the directors report as presented in the annual report of company. Dividend policy: The dividend policy that has been implemented by the management of Oz minerals is in accordance with the corporation Act and rules that are listed on Australian stock exchange. Payment of dividend is done by considering the outlined principles and ensuring the fair trading of securities of Oz minerals. There has not been any recognition of the financial impact of paying dividend in the consolidated financial statement for the year ending 31st December, 2016. For the purpose of Australian taxation, final year dividend has been fully franked. Implementing the dividend policy as prescribed by principles of Australian stock exchange and corporation act has been dine for maintaining compliance so that they are not facing compliance issues (MAcc 2017). Debt ratio has increased indicating increase in total liabilities, but this is not unfavorable for investors seeking investment. In recent years, price of shares have also increased 6.39 for year ending 2016 and increasing to 8.8 for year ending 2017.
